TODAY’S NN&V HEADLINES

  • In Defense of Dawn Gibbons (Ralph Toddre) – Now that the Gibbons divorce is over, I am glad for both of them. It was a very difficult and trying time for them both. It took its toll on them, and was a very stressful situation. So, I wish them both the best.
  • Harry Reid’s Health Care Sitcom (Paul Jacob) – The funniest show on TV? Health care reform. It’s a laugh a minute.
  • Harry Reid’s Power (Sue Lowden) – Harry Reid has sold out to the liberal special interests and used pork projects to buy the votes of Democrat Senators with our tax dollars. He’s spent millions of campaign dollars claiming to be the most powerful U.S. Senator in our state’s history. But he’s used that power to make taxpayers pay for abortions, raise the cost of health care, and dramatically increase our national debt.
  • Santa Delivers New Rec Room for Troops in Yerington (Sean Whaley/Nevada News Bureau) – When the 80 members of Yerington’s L Troop of the 1st Squadron 221st Cavalry return from their one-year mission to Afghanistan in April, they will have a surprise waiting for them in addition to what will undoubtedly be a joyous homecoming with family and friends.
  • Sandoval for Governor Campaign Right on Track (Brian Sandoval) – I have a couple of great updates to share with you today as we close out 2009.

MUTHS TRUTHS

Are you a Nevadan who would like to sign an online petition which reads as follows?

“I am opposed to Harry Reid’s government run health care plan.  It increases taxes, it raids hundreds of billions of dollars from our seniors’ Medicare, forces taxpayers to subsidize abortion, increases government spending by trillions of dollars, places bureaucrats in Washington in between me and my doctor when it comes time to making private health care decisions, and, on top of all that, Harry Reid’s bill will actually INCREASE health care costs by driving up my health premiums!”

OTHER NEWS & VIEWS

From the Department of Useful Idiots Department

From Tuesday’s “Review & Outlook” editorial in the Wall Street Journal:

“After signing a $787 billion economic stimulus and embracing two annual blowout budgets that will double the national debt over 10 years even before ObamaCare, President Obama is poised to pivot next (election) year and denounce the horrors of deficit spending. So the White House is now floating a bipartisan commission to reduce federal borrowing, and much of the political class is all for it.”

To that end, Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND) has introduced a bill “to create a bipartisan fiscal task force to address the nation’s long-term budget crisis.”  The Bipartisan Task Force for Responsible Fiscal Action Act of 2009 “establishes an 18-member task force comprised of ten Democrats and eight Republicans.”

Back to the WSJ:

“We only hope Republicans aren’t foolish enough to fall down this trap door, though some are already tempted. A budget deficit commission is nothing more than a time-tested ploy to get Republicans to raise taxes. In the 2009 version, Republicans are being teed up to hold hands with Democrats and agree to become the tax collectors for Obamanomics.”

Not just tempted.  Indeed, 14 Republican U.S. senators were foolish enough to fall for this oldest trick in the liberal book by co-sponsoring the Conrad bill to make the commission a reality, including….

Nevada Sen. John Ensign.

Remind me again why it’s so important for conservatives, Republicans and Nevadans to keep this man in the Senate instead of replacing him with Rep. Dean Heller?

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

  • “The system worked.”
  • “In many ways, this system has worked.”
  • “Once the incident occurred, the system worked.”
