New Ads Reveal that while Politicians Bemoan High Unemployment Rates, they Continue to Give Jobs to Foreign Workers
Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) and its partners in the Coalition for the Future American Worker have launched an ad campaign about a simple solution to the problem of American job losses-quit giving those jobs to foreign workers. The government’s own figures reveal that every month it adds 125,000 foreign workers through green cards and temporary work permits, over three million since the start of the recession. In addition, over 8 million illegal foreign workers hold U.S. jobs.
“The hypocrisy of Washington politicians on this issue is just appalling. While millions of Americans have lost their jobs and a record number have lost their homes, the government has simultaneously imported millions of foreign workers,” said Diana Hull, the President of CAPS. Worksite enforcement is the key to putting U.S. workers, not illegal immigrants, into American jobs, according to CAPS. It calls for expansion of the E-Verify program. “American workers and their families have borne the brunt of our reckless immigration policy,” said Hull. “We need a mandatory E-Verify system to ensure that legal workers can obtain available jobs.” The ads call for a time-out for temporary worker visas, of which more than 900,000 were issued last year. The campaign also supports a time-out on most permanent foreign workers. The U.S. admitted over one million immigrants last year, and 75 percent were of working age. “Our immigration policy of continuing to import foreign workers during this economic crisis is illogical and irresponsible. Fifteen million unemployed Americans deserve better from their government,” added Hull. CAPS and its allied organizations are running the ads to educate the public about immigration policy and its effect on unemployment.
