AG Catherine Cortez-Masto puts politics ahead of the People

As Husband hosts fundraiser days before trial

November 25, 2009

Las Vegas – Today, the Nevada Republican Party announced that it will consider filing a complaint with the Nevada Ethics Commission against Catherine Cortez Masto for mixing personal political ambition with her official duties in the office of the Attorney General.

Cortez-Masto has been on a crusade to take down Lt. Governor Brian Krolicki since the day he announced that he would be a candidate for the United States Senate.  Just weeks after Krolicki announced his intentions, Masto announced that she would seek to indict the Lt. Governor is what is perceived by many Nevada voters as a political prosecution.  Masto’s husband recently announced that he will be hosting a fundraising event for Lt. Governor Krolicki’s Democrat opponent.

“Nevada voters are getting used to Catherine Cortez-Masto putting politics ahead of the people”, said Nevada Republican Party Chairman Chris Comfort.  “Now her husband is raising money for a candidate running against a sitting elected official who Masto is prosecuting.  Democrats, Republicans and Independents should all be offended by this partisan mix of Masto’s official office and her political ambitions.  We are truly shocked by this behavior.”

“Nevadans expect an Attorney General who puts the law above personal and a political ambition, the sanctity of this office appears to be compromised”, continued Comfort.  “It is time for Nevada voters to have some honesty and integrity from the Attorney General’s office.  She owes the people of Nevada an apology.”

The Nevada Republican Party is currently reviewing all legal and ethical options. In the meantime Catherine Cortez-Masto owes the people of Nevada and Lt. Governor Krolicki an apology for consistently putting her personal political desires ahead of the law.

Chairman Chris Comfort’s Statement on

the Health Care Reform Bill

November 25, 2009

Las Vegas, NV:  Today, Nevada Republican Party Chairman Chris Comfort issued the following statement:

Nevada Republicans stand behind those Senators who are in opposition to passage of the Harry Reid Senate Bill regarding health care reform. Whereas, we stand in solidarity with independents and those who vote right of center and believe health care reform is necessary; we wholly disagree with a plan that front loads revenue and does not address the costs. The Senate Democrats do not have the best interest and welfare of the country in mind. We draw the line on this behavior of the Senate which is contrary to the mandates defined by our constitution and by common sense. Passage of this bill is against the wishes of the majority of Nevadans and Americans alike.

Simply put, the costs of this program will add to our deficit and cause the continuing long term devaluation of the dollar.  The economics do not add up in our opinion.  At a time when our country is in dire financial straits, it makes no sense to bury ourselves deeper in debt.

How Dumb Do They Think You Are?

Attorney General continues mixing official duties and political ambitions

December 3, 2009

Las Vegas – Today, Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto and her Democrat cronies tried to pull a fast one on Nevada voters, the media, and the Nevada Ethics Commission.

Last week, Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto came under fire for having her husband host a $1,000 per person fundraiser for a Democrat candidate for Lt. Governor – just four days before the Attorney General was scheduled to begin prosecuting the sitting Lt. Governor for following the advice of the Attorney General’s office.

Media pressure led Cortez Masto and her friends to cancel the event without explanation.  Now that the pressure is off and Thanksgiving has passed the Attorney General and her cronies are at it again.

Robert Randozzo, Catherine and Paul Masto’s personal choice for Lt. Governor has sent out another invitation – to the same event.  Sure enough, it is the same location and time, same invitation format and font, same colors, even the same photo and quote from Randozzo.  In fact, they didn’t bother to change much at all.

What they did do was make a thinly veiled effort to sneak this new date by voters, the media and the Nevada Ethics Commission by replacing the quote from the disgraced husband of the Attorney General with a quote from one of the Attorney General’s major donors.  They also changed the date, from four days before the Krolicki trial to December 16th…a date in which Catherine Cortez Masto will likely be cross-examining her own employees in the courtroom.

“Catherine Cortez Masto and her friends are so arrogant that they change a few words on an invite and pretend this is no longer about Catherine Cortez Masto.  The event is hosted by Catherine’s husband and Catherine’s top donors and it underscores her personal and partisan crusade to destroy Brian Krolicki,” said Nevada Republican Party Chairman Chris Comfort.  “This event is disrespectful to her office, to the judicial process and to the people of Nevada.  We Nevadans are intelligent and mindful of common sense governance, we are not blind to these shenanigans and expect better. The AG is making a critical assumption about our level of political intelligence, and makes a mockery of our state. We Nevadans expect justice and more respect.”

Cortez Masto has been on a crusade to take down Lt. Governor Brian Krolicki since the time he announced that he would be a candidate for the United States Senate.  Just days after Krolicki announced his intentions Masto announced that she would seek to indict the Lt. Governor in what is perceived by many Nevada voters as a political prosecution.

“Catherine Cortez Masto’s political stunts continue to erode public trust in her and in the judicial system,” continued Comfort.  “At a time when all of our elected officials should be worried about getting Nevadans back to work Catherine Cortez Masto and her friends continue their political crusade putting partisan politics ahead of good government, common sense and basic ethics.”

Several months ago Cortez Masto backed off prosecuting her friend and fellow Democrat, Nuclear Projects Director Bob Loux .  In fact, Cortez Masto wanted taxpayers to foot the bill to defend the man who gave himself and his friends a raise – using taxpayer money – while every other state agency was cutting spending.

The Nevada Republican Party is currently reviewing all legal and ethical options regarding Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto and her consistent mix of her official office and her personal political priorities. It is time for a change; the Republicans are back and with a mandate to protect our state and constitution from petty partisan myopia.

Chairman Chris Comfort Gives Groundbreaking Speech to the Nevada Republican Men’s Club

December 9, 2009

Las Vegas – In a major policy speech to the Nevada Republican Men’s Club with over 150 members present, Chairman Christopher Comfort of the Nevada Republican party outlined the strategic direction for Nevada republicans and their independent friends.  The Chairman’s message was one of peace, prosperity and strategy for winning in 2010.

“The speech that I gave in Hawthorne used the grievances of the Declaration of Independence; the same grievances of over 200 years ago are apropos for today…we are in trouble as a nation, and as a state, and we all know it. We are spending more than we are taking in, our government has grown to gigantic proportions, thus making all of the ratios for self-determination and liberty obsolete…. Proper systems are the hallmark of our party; a Republican Renaissance. “ stated Comfort.

After discussing specific objectives and methodologies for enhancing the NRP’s current structure, Comfort continued to emphasize our current economic crisis by stating: “Yes, these goals are substantive but worth every penny. Nevada is no longer in the dark ages…we will not lose again. Our goal is to motivate all of those voters who voted during the last election, and outline very clearly that not one of them is better off with a democrat in the White House, Congress, or our State offices. Not one democrat is better off. And we are the party who says no, no to socialism, no to Reids and Titus and no unfair and unbalanced representation resulting in higher taxes or ridiculous legislation.”

Concluding his speech, Chairman Comfort stated:  “We are here to serve and we are no more than you. We care for our country and Nevada will be the model for the rest of the nation as we re-found confidence and integrity.”  One attendee was overheard saying: “Watch out for huge losses for democrats, I am confident in our leadership, a firestorm has started.”

Reid Continues to Compare Slavery and Health Care Reform

December 9, 2009

Las Vegas, NV:  Today, the Nevada Republican Party issued the following statement:

The Nevada Republican Party officials state that Harry Reid, once again, has made the case for his retirement from political arena. “Slavery, ended by a Republican administration, Lincoln’s, evokes images of a civil war which tore at the very fabric of our nation and used by Harry Reid as a metaphor to incite the passions of those who say no to ridiculous legislation, that is, health care, is irresponsible.” stated Chairman Comfort.

“As a health care provider, and a family member of physicians and dentists for almost 100 years, we, my family and my colleagues, absolutely and without equivocation, refuse to be slaves to the federal government in a health care scheme that will infect this country like a bad abscess.”

Comfort continued:  “Nevada Republicans and our independent friends say no to poor governance and ridiculous legislation. Senator Reid invoking slavery and images of a civil war regarding those who do not vote for his legislation defies logic, explanation, or any other descriptive term reminiscent of anything in government that makes sense.  The voters of Nevada do expect an apology from Senator Reid.”

Statement Regarding the Exculpation of Brian Krolicki

December 9, 2009

Las Vegas, NV:  Today, Nevada Republican Party Chairman Christopher Comfort issued the following statement:

“The Nevada attorney general, mired in political controversy, has proven to the people of Nevada that her career is up in smoke. The exculpation of Brian Krolicki, the Lieutenant Governor, proves that her case was without merit and politically motivated. When good governance is at the mercy of petty and myopic partisan brinkmanship, all Nevadans suffer. We think that it is time with this resounding defeat that the AG apologizes to the people of Nevada. We have had our facts straight all along.” Comfort continued: “ I cannot wait to see this press conference and hear her defense of a conflicts of interest.”
