U.S. troop funds diverted to pet projects
Study finds $2.6 billion taken from guns & ammunition
Dear Senator Vitter: Today’s Washington Times reports: “Senators diverted $2.6 billion in funds in a defense spending bill to pet projects largely at the expense of accounts that pay for fuel, ammunition and training for U.S. troops, including those fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, according to an analysis. Among the 778 such projects, known as earmarks, packed into the bill: $25 million for a new World War II museum at the University of New Orleans Sen. Mary L. Landrieu, Louisiana Democrat, and Sen. David Vitter, Louisiana Republican, sought the funding for the World War II museum.” http://washingtontimes.com/news/2009/oct/15/troop-funds-diverted-to-pet-projects/ IS THIS AN ACCURATE REPORT? Did you have a hand in the theft of funds from our troops for a “NEW” WWII Museum? What is wrong with the current WWII museum? I don’t like money being stolen from our military to support “pork barrel” projects. In fact, as a conservative, I hate all “pork barrel” projects. And I am mad as h*ll about this report. Last Thursday, October 8th, my youngest son, Byron L. Havard, was deployed with his Navy unit to Camp Speicher in Iraq. I don’t like the idea of our military being short changed by greedy politicians to buy votes. Could Charlie Melacon do worse? Senator, I am a registered Republican. I voted for you in your victories for House & Senate. I expect you to explain to our local and national media your part in this travesty. Though there are only two votes in my household, I have many friends and relatives in Louisiana – I’d say easily in the hundreds. Should we just sit out your next election? What say you Senator? Truly, Clark M. Havard
