Reid Worries Card Check Won’t Pass Public Scrutiny,
Readies Plan To Ram Bill Through Congress Without Review

WASHINGTON – Fresh off his broken promise to deliver a health care reform bill before Congress adjourns for the August recess, U.S Senate Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has apparently decided to “railroad” the controversial card-check legislation bill through the Senate in an attempt to avoid any further embarrassing political defeats.
Roll Call reports this morning that, “As Senate Democrats struggle to hammer out a compromise bill on union organizing, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is sketching a process for railroading the bill through the floor as quickly as possible to prevent Republicans from rallying a major campaign against it.” |
According to Democrat aides quoted by Roll Call today, “[T]op Democrats will look to make their move as fast as possible, according to the Democratic aides. ‘This is not the kind of thing where we could have a long, drawn-out rollout. We’d have to say, ‘Here’s the deal,’ and then get to the floor and get it passed before anyone can mobilize against it,’ one leadership aide said.”
Nevada Republican Chairman, Sue Lowden added, “Like the so called ‘Stimulus Package and Bail-Out Package’, Harry Reid will not give anyone a chance to actually read the bill. This is typical of Reid and not surprising to Nevadans who have watched him rush thru tax and spend and job cutting legislation.”
Card check, which independent economic analysts have predicted would have a devastating impact on our nation’s economy, has long been a pet project of big labor and union bosses, who, perhaps not coincidentally, have donated nearly $1.3 million to Harry Reid throughout his political career.
“It’s not surprising that Harry Reid might try to rush card check through the Senate, because he knows public support for this job-killing legislation will crumble once exposed to the scrutiny of the American people. What is surprising is that Reid would attempt to ram a job-killing bill through Congress at a time when Nevada’s unemployment is among the highest in the country,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Brian Walsh. “Once again it raises the question for the people of Nevada: where exactly are Harry Reid’s priorities?”
“Just as he did with the failed ‘stimulus’ bill in February and attempted to do with government-run health care last week, Harry Reid is once again trying to ram a bad piece of legislation into law without the transparency and accountability promised by President Obama,” Walsh continued. “Instead of re-paying political favors to his big labor allies, Reid should give Americans enough time to digest the destructive impact of this flawed bill.”
Lee ADDS: Harry ‘Hands Up’ Reid will never represent the wishes of the Nevada Constituency so land as he remains in office. He is too busy catering to the true ‘masters’ he serves such as Ted Kennedy, George Soros and the many Lobbyists that line his coffers with cash!
