Reid Admits “Everything I Do In The Last Five Years Has Been Campaign-Related”

WASHINGTON – In a stunning admission to the Las Vegas Review-Journal today, U.S. Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) acknowledged that everything he’s done the last five years has been related to his campaign for re-election. “That’s what my life is about,” Reid said.

This curious revelation from Nevada’s senior Senator raises a critical question: At a time when Reid has been fully focused on his campaign for re-election, who is looking out for Nevada and its economy?  In the timeframe Reid references, Nevada’s unemployment and home foreclosure rates have skyrocketed.

“We commend Harry Reid for finally admitting what’s been the worst kept secret in Nevada the last few years – that Harry Reid places a higher premium on retaining his political power in Washington than delivering for his constituents at home,” National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokesman Brian Walsh said today.

Harry Reid likes to talk about how his position as Senate Majority Leader helps him deliver for Nevada, but apparently the only Nevadan who is benefiting is Harry Reid,” Walsh reiterated.  “Perhaps this explains why he had the President come to Las Vegas to throw a lavish fundraiser for his campaign, but yet he won’t lean on this same President to make sure Nevada receives a fair share of federal stimulus dollars.”

“It’s clear Harry Reid has misplaced his priorities, but as his dismal job approval numbers reflect, Nevadans have realized this fact for some time – even before his admission today,” Walsh concluded.

Nevada Republican Party Chairman Sue Lowden added that, “Harry Reid has spent 3 decades in Washington and all he cares about is his next re-election. It’s no wonder his approval rate in Nevada is at 35%. Harry Reid says he will raise 25 million dollars to get re-elected… he will need 30 million.”

Last month, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported that, “Joblessness in Nevada set a record in May, and experts see few signs of an end to the Silver State’s surging unemployment.  Unemployment reached 11.3 percent statewide in May, up nearly 1 percentage point from April’s 10.6 percent. May’s number handily beats the previous high of 10.7 percent, set in December 1982.”

This stands in stark comparison to the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s report last fall, which noted that Nevada’s unemployment was roughly 4 percent and Nevada led the nation in job creation just a few short years ago.

It’s time for Nevadans to call upon representative Dean Heller to run against Harry Reid. Please let Dean know that we would fully support him in a Senatorial race against Harry Reid
