Barack Obama had a thin resume. His advisors told him to do anything possible to add to his experience for the election. Anything would help. Community service experience would go nicely with his Organizer claims, they said.
On his way home, Obama was passing the state mental hospital when he suddenly had a flash of inspiration. He drove in the main gate and parked the car and went inside. It was a typical hospital but with few people in the lobby. Failing to see anyone except a young lady at the reception desk who was busy on the phone, he quietly walked past her and went down the main hospital hallway. At the end, he opened the door and found a little garden where several people were sitting quietly. Some were reading while others were chatting with each other. He promptly went to two nearby who were in conversation and asked, “Where is the office? I want to talk the the people in charge. Maybe the head doctor has an office nearby.”
One of the men looked Obama over and asked him, “Why do you want to see Doctor Schwartz?”

Obama replied brusquely, “I want to talk to him, that’s all!” He was a senator running for the highest office in the land, you see.
The man again spoke: “Well, if you want to talk to him, you better have a good reason. He is a very busy man.”
Obama lost all patience. He responded with, “It is obvious you do not know who I am. Are you people always this helpful?”
The two men started laughing. Obama’s blood pressure immediately rose by decades. One man said, “I don’t care who you are. The doctor will call for you if he wants you. You don’t just walk in on him.”
Obama had had it! There was nothing left for him to do but say, “I am Barack Obama. I am a Senator who is running for President of the United States. That should mean something to you and to the head doctor.”
The two men wagged their heads and looked toward the ground. Then, one of the men said, “You better not say that to the doctors here or you’ll never get out.”
