Subject: Iraq

I just visited with a friend who is a military pilot in the Air Force and goes to Iraq and knows a lot of others who fly over there.

 He says that the majority of the people are happy with the Americans and that we have done a lot of good putting electricity, water, and other resources into areas that have never had it before. The Iraqi kids love the Americans and we build playgrounds and provide equipment for the kids. He said the real picture and what the American media shows is so distorted that he is very angry. It is not so much that the media lies but that they only report the negative and nothing positive. He says there is so much more positive than negative.

The violence is primarily due to the terrorists who hate America and is not representative of the vast majority of the Iraqi people.

He says it would be a total disaster to pull out of Iraq. He feels that we have an opportunity to establish a real democracy in Iraq which would help stabilize the entire area and could provide us with the military base to protect the entire area. Otherwise, Iran will eventually take over and establish another terrorist base.
