Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives is stalling, and may possible deny debates, on a Bill that would allow America’s employers to require that English be spoken on the job. In fact, the absence of this legislation may give victory to those actually suing employers who are seeking to enforce this as part of a job requirement. This is not only wrong, it is morally wrong; stupid as well!
One supporter boasts of her past job as a bartender in China. “I was never required to learn Chinese,” she chortles. I have a question for this foolish woman, “If you did not learn the names of drinks you poured, how did you know what was ordered by the patron?” She might not have been required to learn Chinese but she muast have learned anough to do her job correctly! She understood the needs of het customers or she would have been canned!
In coming to America a person must realize that America is an English speaking country. To get a driver’s license you must be able to read road signs, which are written in English, yet some misguided states have their license test in more than one language. If confronted by an emergency situation how would anyone know what was being said if they could not speak or understand the language of the country where they were? If pulled over for an infraction, how would the policeman making the stop be able to communicate with that person if unable to speak English?
In my life I have been in every country that borders the Med. France, Spain, Italy, Yougoslavia, Greece, Lebanon, French Morocco and any others. In each I learned enough of the local language to order in a restaurant, communicate with a policeman, or simply make known the simplest of things for my own comforts. I did not see this as an imposition as I considered myself to be a guest of each country I visited. A person that sets up residence in any country is either a fool or an idiot if theat person does not learn the language of the host country. This should be common sense but, not according to Pelosi and her crowd of Secular Progressive Liberals. For them to say that this is somehow an ‘imposition’ on anyone is outlandish.
Protect our employers, our police forces, our restauranteers, and our country by requiring English not only be the National Language, but a must in order to obtain any lisence or consideration of gaining legal immigration status.
Sure, there will be strong accents and mispronunciations but, they already exist! No one expects Oxfordian English, just speak in words we can understand! Also, do not speak in a language that is unable to be understood by the general public unless a tourist.. If you are a toursit, OK, but if a resident…SPEAK ENGLISH!
