For those of you who did not see President Obama’s speech and feel badly about it, here is sympathetic MSM coverage to catch you up: The Atlantic.
The jist of it was: “You, me, we’re like one. And we’re under siege by the wealthy. It hasn’t been this bad since Congress had to fix all those monopolists a hundred years ago. Yep – you and me against them.”
As I look around my life, I can’t find many signs that I’m under siege by the wealthy. Can’t find any signs, in fact. I can find signs that something’s out of order though:
My landlord just raised my office rent 5% – anticipating that next year, the inflationary impact of all this unfunded spending by the federal government will kick in.
Even the Chinese can no longer lend enough to cover all of the federal government’s unfunded spending, so our government is printing currency without having any underlying value to the new bills (On paper, the Treasury is making up the shortfall by borrowing from the Federal Reserve Bank, which it owns. This is like you right hand lending money to your left; do it all you want, but it doesn’t help you pay your real bills).
I recently accessed the health care system in a meaningful way. The extra (and useless) forms, filing and records custodianship regulations have added a new layer of cost and confusion to the already over-regulated local doctor’s office.
The regulations on business formation have become so senseless in America that the Chinese are openly soliciting our businesses to domicile there.
Bama’s correctly forseen that I feel under siege – but it’s not the wealthy doing it… it’s the federal government.
